Under 21's Ladies Clinch the Title for the 19th Time.
The Under 21 Ulster girls showed the home crowd what they were made of at the weekend when they stole the show at Lisnagarvey Hockey Club in annual the ESB Inter-provincial tournament. The crowd were treated to some outstanding hockey over the course of the weekend but Graham Quincey’s girls completely dominated tallying up an amazing 32 goals in four matches, managing not to concede a goal on their way to lifting the trophy The home-side got off to a compelling start, enjoying a fantastic 11-0 win over Connacht in their opening match of the tournament. Megan Frazer stole the show on Friday evening when she netted an impressive five goals. Frazer's goals were all in the first half along with Liz Colvin and Jill Kennedy who were also on the score sheet. The second half saw Emma Thornbury, Katie Saunderson, Alex Speers and Kennedy all finding the back board taking the final score to 11-0. Saturday's first match saw a 7-0 demolition over South East. An Alex Speers hat-trick within the first half an hour almost settled the game for the Ulster girls. However there were more goals to come for the home-team and the first came from Megan Frazer who capitalised in the circle just before the break. The second half saw both Saunderson and Grace Moffet convert penalty corners to finish the match. Their second match of the day was their second 7-0 triumph of the day with a thrashing of Munster. Mulligan was first on the score sheet with Moffet and captain Speers following close after. Michelle Harvey's drag flick efforts were rewarded when she took the score to 4-0. Frazer scored the next for the home side just before the half time mark. In the second half Liz Colvin and Kate McConnell finished the scoring. The home-sides final match against Leinster saw a third 7-0 win. Rachel Mulligan, Alex Speers, Megan Frazer (2), Katie Saunderson, and Emma Thornbury all enjoyed a goal in the first half and Speers netted the final goal of Ulster’s tournament with a seventh goal on thirty five minutes. Well done to all the girls and their coaches. Helen
